Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has directed the formulation of a comprehensive strategy to transform Islamabad’s Safe City project into a full-fledged Capital Smart City. As part of the new measures, the entry of vehicles without an M-Tag into Islamabad will be banned from January 1.
According to a press release, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, along with Minister of State Talal Chaudhry, visited the Safe City Headquarters. During the visit, the Interior Minister reviewed the city’s monitoring system on the digital wall and observed public order and security arrangements through advanced technological tools. Surveillance operations at the special Chinese desk in the control room were also inspected.
A high-level meeting was held at the Safe City Headquarters under the chairmanship of the Interior Minister, focusing on steps to enhance the protection of citizens’ lives and property. Mohsin Naqvi instructed officials to expedite work on the Capital Smart City project and ensure the integration of key civic services, including Rescue 1122, traffic management, security departments, and the Capital Development Authority (CDA), into a unified central system.
The Interior Minister stated that the scope of the Capital Smart City initiative would eventually be expanded across the country and adopted as a model to make Islamabad the safest city in Pakistan. He emphasised that reforms in the Safe City system and the effective use of modern technology are essential to meet current security and governance challenges.
During the meeting, the Inspector General of Islamabad Police gave a detailed briefing on the transition from Safe City to Capital Smart City. He highlighted that Safe City cameras played a vital role during Muharram-ul-Haram, helping save both time and resources. The meeting was also attended by the Federal Secretary Interior, Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Additional Deputy Commissioner General, and other senior officials.
